Nationalism

I just overheard some kids in the library talking about Chinese water torture and then they started talking shit about Americans.

I do not consider myself a nationalist by any means. But I am sick and tired of having to sit around while people talk shit about America! I find it insulting when I hear things like "Americans think they know everything" and "Oh you know, that AMERICAN torture technique" (that Great Britain also takes part in, but of course Americans are the only ones to get flack for it). I also heard someone blame the current economic crisis, not on the fortune 500 companies but on the set up of cities in America, apparently us being so spread out is what caused the problem, but greedy corporations.

I am an American and I just get so tired of people talking shit about my country. Cause I'm part of it. And I think we do a lot of really terrible things, but its the government, not the people. And a lot of the people may be stupid but not all of us. I do not think I know everything.

I find the longer I stay over in Europe, the more nationalistic I become. Because it puts me on the defensive. I'm tired of having to defend my country. I'm tired of traveling and meeting Americans that ask really stupid questions, or make assumptions based on false information they think they know. But I am not like these people, and I would appreciate not being thrown in the same bag as them. How do Irish feel when you say. "Oh, all Irish are drunks." Its the same god damned thing.

Arg.
